I love roller bottles. They are also a great time saver and can be transported easily. No more having to fumble around with oil bottles, carrier oils and then mixing when you are in need. Just grab your already pre-made and diluted roller bottle. These 20 essential oil roller bottle recipes are ones that I always have ready to go, but I also have single oil ones as well, including peppermint, melaleuca, frankincense and lavender.

What is a roller bottle?

A roller bottle is a glass bottle that holds a liquid mix of a blend of oils. It contains a carrier oil and a few drops of essential oils with a roller on top. This roller allows for easy application. A metal ball is recommended, especially with citrus oils as they may eat through the plastic.Due to having young children who have sensitive skin, I dilute many of my roll-ons to a dilution that is suitable for our boys.

Carrier Oils

You can use the carrier oil of your choice. Here are some:

fractionated coconut oil – coconut oil broken down to remain liquid and last longer
sweet almond oil
jojoba oil

How to Fill a Roller Bottle

Add 10-15 drops of essential oils to 1 x 10ml roller bottle
Fill the rest of the bottle with your chosen carrier oil
Add the roller ball top
Shake well to mix

How to Use

Roller bottles can be rolled onto most parts of the body. Make sure to keep them away from your eyes and don’t put them inside your ears. My favourite places to roll oils on are the bottoms of feet, back of neck, behind the ears, on the wrists, temples, chest, spine and the belly. To be really effective, apply less oil, more often.

If the brand of essential oils you use have essential oil blends, you can use these too. Just add 10 (child) – 15 (adult) drops of your favourite essential oil to a 10 ml roller bottle and then top with carrier oil.

Roller Bottle Recipes

These are the recipes that I use. Depending on your situation and the age of your children, you may want to increase or decrease the amount of essential oils in each roller bottle. Also, remember certain oils can not be used while pregnant or breastfeeding. Another thing to remember is the photosynthesis oils. Do not roll these on areas that will be in the sun.

Breathe Easy

4 drops peppermint
2 drops eucalyptus
2 drops lemon
2 drops rosemary
Add to 10 mL bottle and top off with carrier oil.

Anti-Itch

5 drops lavender
3 drops deodorizing blend
3 drops peppermint
Add to 10 mL bottle and top off with carrier oil.

Focus Blend

4 drops lavender
4 drops cedarwood
4 drops vetiver
Add to 10 mL bottle and top off with carrier oil.

Concentration

4 drops peppermint
4 drops orange
4 drops self esteem

3 drops wintergreen
3 drops peppermint
