What is Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is a simple mixture of sugar and water – boiled so the sugar dissolves and is not grainy.

Simple syrup is a delicious, easy way to sweeten drinks, add flavor to co*cktails and mocktails, and even flavor recipes.

You can make all sorts of different simple syrup flavors – like the juniper cardamom simple syrup we made for one of our favorite gin and tonic recipes – but for this recipe, we’re using fresh, or fresh-frozen summer peaches.

How To Make Simple Syrup

To make this simple syrup, we will need the following ingredients:

  • Frozen peaches: The frozen peaches bring a sweet and fruity flavor to the simple syrup. You can use fresh peaches if they’re in season, but frozen peaches work well too and are available year-round.
  • Granulated sugar: The sugar is used to sweeten the syrup and make it thick and syrupy. You can adjust the amount of sugar to your liking, depending on how sweet you want the syrup to be.
  • Water: The water is used to dissolve the sugar and create the syrup. You can use filtered water to ensure that the syrup is clean and free of impurities.

Once the ingredients are assembled, we will use the following process:

  • Prep. Add all ingredients to a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat.
  • Simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes then remove from heat and let set for 30 minutes to cool.
  • Strain. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a bottle to remove the peaches.

Tips and Tricks to Perfect Peach Simple Syrup

To make simple syrup, you will boil water and dissolve sugar, stirring often, until it has combined and dissolved completely.

For this recipe, as we’re adding peaches, we’re going to simply add the peaches in with the simple syrup and then strain them out – leaving tons of fresh flavor in the syrup!

For this recipe, we are using frozen peaches or fresh peaches (if you can’t get fresh peaches, using freshly-frozen is a delicious, easy way to pack this recipe full of peach flavor) to boil with water while dissolving sugar to create a syrup.

If using fresh peaches, look for ripe peaches and remove peach pits – we like to lightly mash the peach fruit to get even more flavor from the peaches as they cook!

We prefer using frozen or fresh peaches for this recipe – but if you can’t get either, canned peaches can work in a pinch.

Please be sure to use only peaches packed in water – not in syrup – as it will be far too sweet and throw off the flavor of your simple syrup.

Be sure to use frozen peaches that do not have any sugar added.
