Guilt System | Blasphemous 2 Wiki (2024)

Guilt System in Blasphemous 2is a system of risks and rewards for the game that is intrinsically connected to The Penitent One's in-game deaths. TheGuilt System already existed in the previous game, but wasn't as clearly represented. InBlasphemous 2, however, The Penitent One's guilt accumulation can now be seen outside of the roots that seal his Fervour bar. This currentGuilt System also brings with it new bonuses that go beyond the previous game's bonuses to the number of Tears of Atonement acquired for killing Enemies while having some guilt accumulated. This page will have all the ins and outs of the new features of theGuilt System.

Blasphemous 2 Guilt System Mechanics

Whenever The Penitent Onedies in Blasphemous 2, he accumulatesGuilt. This guilt is represented plainly by the roots that begin to cover up parts of the Fervour bar upon each death. Furthermore, the player will leave behind a Guilt Fragment at the exact spot that The Penitent Onedied, which can be retrieved to reduce the accumulation of Guilt. This used to be the only way it was shown in the previous game. Now, however, players can open their menu to see theirGuilt accumulation as well as what level it is currently on.

Depending on how muchGuilt the player has accumulated, and at whatGuiltLevel, theGuilt System confers a bonus that increases theTears of Atonement as well as Marytdom Points that The Penitent Onegains when killing Enemies while having that certain level ofGuilt accumulated. To balance this out, The Penitent One's defenses and resistances are also increasingly lowered, the higher hisGuilt accumulation is. This creates the high-risk, high-reward process that is theGuilt System.

Blasphemous 2 Marks of Martyrdom Guide

Marks of Martyrdom are important resources that the player naturally gets as they journey through Cvstodia with The Penitent One. These are mainly acquired for killing Enemies through Execution and eliminating Bosses. However, it is actually a semi-hidden mechanic that can be seen when opening the menu.

There is actually a gauge that fills up with Martyrdom points that are gained whenever you kill an Enemy. Along with Tears of Atonement, Enemiesdrop certain numbers of Martyrdom points. Filling up the gauge will grant one Mark of Martyrdom, which means Bosses give Marks of Martyrdom upon death because killing them fills up the gauge faster. Execution kills also make Enemies drop a bit more points than they usually do when killed. Marks of Martyrdom can then be used for certain boons, like acquiring nodes in the Weapon Memories system or increasing the slots for figures in the Altarpiece of Favours.

Blasphemous 2Howto Reduce Guilt Level

The basic way to reduce guilt is to reclaim the Guilt Fragments that The Penitent Onedrops whenever he dies. You'll notice that whenever you go back to the exact spot where The Penitent Onedied, you can reclaim the Guilt Fragment to see the roots that are corrupting his Fervour gauge recede. However, you'll also notice that, for example, even if you reclaim the Guilt Fragment from your very first death, the roots will not completely recede. This is because retrieving a Guilt Fragment only partially reduces theGuilt that has already accumulated from dying. Therefore, it is completely possible after dying too many times that retrieving the Guilt Fragment from your next death will do nothing at all to ease The Penitent One's burden of guilt.

Instead, the primary way to cleanse The Penitent One'sGuiltLevels is to avail of the services of the Confessor, who can be located in the City of the Blessed Name. For the price of 1000 Tears of Atonement, the Confessorwill lower yourGuilt Level by a larger margin by having your burdens ofGuilt shared with him. Furthermore, if you visit him enough and avail of his services frequently, you can progress his related quest.
