As a leadership and communication coach, her portfolio of experience ranges from working with UberEats sales teams during the pandemic to Bank of America women leaders during the #MeToo movement and Latino congressional candidates who often represent voiceless members in our communities. Kristin has taught MBA candidates at Boston University's Questrom School of Business, and lectured on entrepreneurship at Princeton, Brown, and Harvard Universities. She has been recognized as a Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneur, Fulbright Scholar, Aspen Global Leaders Fellow, NYU Changemaker and was awarded the Horseshoe Hero award from the Indianapolis Colts. Thank you so much for having me on your Advisory Board. This is a really important mission to get more women onto boards, to create strategic direction that isn't so male dominated. It's difficult writing a comment like this when we have a voice in the back of our minds saying 'equality and diversity of thought is already here, why is this needed.' Its important to turn this on its head and just say 'why wouldn't you want more strategic insight from women.' If you have a mostly male board, and you don't think having women on your board will make a difference, then you really need women on your board, to open up that difference, and take full advantage of it. Let's create the pathways to make this happen, open the door, welcome the new seats, celebrate the talent, break the ceiling, harvest the insights, and make great things happen.

Happy and proud that we (Dr. Dorothea Maria Stock & Markus Gmür) made it into one of the best NPO journals with our meta-analysis.https://lnkd.in/dEXjheUr This meta-analysis examines the state of research on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and performance in nonprofit organizations (NPOs). The evidence on this relationship in the business context is already well consolidated. Nonprofit research also elaborated review publications on EO. However, existing knowledge lacks an examination of the EO–performance relationship in NPOs. This study includes 25 publications in the correlation-based meta-analysis and finds that various performance goals are positively affected. Nonetheless, the results reveal several inconsistencies regarding conceptual and methodological approaches. A critical reflection on the complexity and differentiation of both constructs, problems of bias, and the causal character of the relationship addresses these issues.

And sometimes, our theory of change is just a theory...Dear friends, donors and ESD allies,I would love to be sharing news of an incredible success story, but alas, that will have to wait for a future post.A little over 6 months ago, I shared my theory of change for scaling our Empowerment Self-Defense work in Costa Rica and becoming a fully self-sustaining organization. My "State of theHolistic Self-Defense Revolution" presentation was optimistic, but rooted in proof of product and a promising start to our fundraisingefforts.Today, I do still feel optimistic. While we reached approximately 15% of our funding goal and have been able to pay a wonderful team for the last 9 months, we have not become self-sustaining and in fact have been less successful in reaching communities, for reasons I will discuss in my upcoming presentation. However, our instructors have also developed regional collectives of their own and many have grown immensely in their own self-defense and empowerment initiatives! We are continually spreading our methodology farther and wider, and the holistic self-defense revolution continues in unexpected ways.A few more wins: We will be training our third cohort of holistic self-defense instructors in Costa Rica next month; I recently presented our documentary and methodology in 6 locations along the West Coast of the US, Mujeres Fuertes instructors have taught dozens of workshops to hundreds of students this year, and I will be participating in an exciting startup accelerator program in Miami next week. What can we learn from failure? What happens when our theory of change does not in fact come to fruition? How might we work in collaborationrather than in tension with community? What visions for the future can we seed together?I look forward to exploring those questions and more with you! I am pleased to invite you to another virtual session for donors, allies and friends about the current....State of the Holistic Self-Defense Revolution, Part 2: "Lessons from Failure"Wednesday, July 17th | 6pm PST / 7pm Costa Rica / 9pm EST | OnlinePlease send me a message with your email if you did not receive an invite to the GoogleMeet session but would like to be present!During this session, we'll unpack our last year of efforts to become a self-sustaining social enterprise, celebrate successes and honor the role of our donors in achieving them, vision alternate routes for the future, and have an open conversation about what it means to evolve responsively.I hope to see you there! NB: After July, we will sadly be out of funds. In order to keep our team on board and continue to deliver live and virtual self-defense training, support to instructors, and other educational resources, we require ~$1,000-1,500/month for operational costs. If it is within your means to support financially, we are incredibly grateful for your continued (tax-deductible) support:https://lnkd.in/dAzRfr_j

In #strategicdoing, we talk about #networks being formed around a hub of some kind. This is a very interesting example: a network forming around a piece of public art (and of course the ideas behind that). What other unusual "hubs" have you encountered?

What energy, generosity and co-creation we were able to experience at the #PEXforum 2024 in Rome, co-created with Alina Porumb, PhD, INSPIRE Community Foundations, Alina Shenfeldt, Birce Altay, Türkiye Üçüncü Sektör Vakfı - Third Sector Foundation of Türkiye, Francesca Mereta, Fabian Pfortmüller and Michel Bachmann, Olga Tarasov, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Vinzenz Himmighofen, International Alumni Center gGmbH (iac Berlin) and co-hosted by Acri, Assifero and Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association. We brought together over 100 participants to the PEXforum to discuss how we can become agents of change - as individuals and also within our own teams and contexts. While the world is on fire and there are more challenges than hopeful messages to look out for, gaining this belief that we can shape change and a better future is key. With that, we shared the invitation to operate from the frame of possibility rather than constrain, from the space of abundance rather than scarcity, from the space of collaboration rather than competition. The theory of fractal agency has been a source of inspiration to us. It is not about scaling one solution to achieve systems change, but rather about aligning on values as a basis for individual and collective action to then find pathways to possible solutions. And for this, we need trust because trust helps us reduce complexity, as German social scientist and systems thinker Nicklas Luhmann once said.We also discussed an open innovation ecosystem for philanthropy in Europe and the idea of a secondary operating system to seed and foster innovation. This has provided much food for thought and inspiration on how even within the existing constraints and established traditional ways of working we can create the conditions to support innovation and establish a new culture of collaboration - at the team and also at the sector level. We asked ourselves, how we can practise new paradigms of philanthropy and what enabling conditions we would need for a connected ecosystem of philanthropy infrastructure practitioners. We don’t have a master plan and are still inquiring into the new models of governance, co-creation, learning and collaborating. Many seeds have been planted at the forum on how to move forward collectively, with beautiful thank-you messages and generous offers landing in our inboxes. Thank you for that, we are ready to explore PEX 2.0#PEXforum #fractalagencyPhoto: Andrea Sabatello.

The recent strategic evolution of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) into a science-focused philanthropy is a pivotal moment in the landscape of scientific philanthropy. This shift aligns with a growing trend where major philanthropic entities are increasingly concentrating on science to catalyze groundbreaking discoveries.Frontier research, often unpredictable and high-risk, is the bedrock of transformative advances in health, technology, and beyond. It demands robust support, both in funding and strategic alignment. This decision by CZI underlines the vital role of frontier research in shaping our future.https://lnkd.in/evN7F-ac#SciencePhilanthropy #FrontierResearch #CZI

🚨 Don't miss our Design Thinking for Social Innovators webinar with GrantStation.com on March 14 🚨Many nonprofits tackle deeply rooted and complex issues that require evolving solutions. Sticking to the status quo with a mindset of "this is how it's always been done" puts your programs and projects at risk of becoming outdated. That’s why success in the nonprofit sector requires continuous innovation.Innovation, however, is not just about having creative ideas; it’s about focused implementation based on good research and design, often done with a team or collaborators.During this webinar, Paul will share tools and examples of how social innovators have benefitted their communities and organizations with unique approaches to complex issues. You'll explore what innovation means for nonprofit organizations so you can apply these principles to your own situation.Learn more and register below: https://lnkd.in/eJqU4HNj
